Gym Journal

I knew this day was coming. I knew it would make or break my efforts, and I would have to tough it out. Oh goodness, today I was so crampy and bloated and exhausted. Sorry, not trying to give t.m.i., but this is a harsh reality for women on a mission to lose weight. Once a month you will temporarily gain roughly 5-10 pounds in water weight and feel absolutely miserable. I avoid the scale at this time. I know better. That’s part of why I have decided to only do weigh in updates once a month.

The only thing I wanted to do today was curl up in a blanket on my couch and rest, but I knew that if I let this day be an excuse that stopped me from going to the gym on a regularly scheduled day, I would be starting back at day 1 in my habit forming efforts. I couldn’t give in. I had to just do it. The only accomplishment I cared about completing today was just showing up and doing something – anything.

I got to the gym and I knew I wasn’t going to make it through a whole 10 minutes running without stopping when battling these cramps, but I gave it my best effort. I managed to run 6 minutes, slow down for 3, and run the last minute. I felt pretty good about that.

In addition, today would be leg day, so I forced myself through 3 sets on the Glute machine and both Hip Abduction machines and just felt the life draining from me. lol So I went over and planked before leaving, which I managed to hold for 1:08 plus an addition 0:30. I’ll take it. By the time that was finished, I felt borderline pukey. There are a lot of things I will fight through and no longer allow to be an excuse that stops me from my workout. However, pukey is a line for me. In fact it was so bad that I refused to eat anything other than veggies for dinner, because any kind of carb sounded like it would be heavy enough on my stomach to push me over the edge.

Did I do as much today as I would have liked? No. Absolutely not.

Did I accomplish what I set out to do today? Yes. Absolutely I did, better than I expected.

Here’s hoping that tomorrow is better, because I will not back down. Week 3 of establishing my gym habit will be a success. #noexcuses
